Heatwave - it's getting HOT in here!

Nervousness, excitement, trepidation... Thankfully, release time is also SUPER busy, so I'm able to channel those emotions into the work that has to be done in the lead-up.

Of course, as I'm releasing one project, I'm always working on something else behind the scenes, and it's been no different this time, but this week it's all about Heatwave!

Heatwave is here (and it's SUPER HOT!) Designed for maximum impact, the Heatwave Quilt works well with a range of fabric choices - a combination of your favourite bold solids, the prints in a specific fabric collection, or fabric scrap magic (like my Anna Maria Horner version below).

Three sizes are included in the pattern: Baby quilt - finished size 49½in x 52½in or 126cm x 134cm Throw quilt - finished size 69½in x 71½in or 177cm x 182cm Large Queen quilt - finished size 98½in x 104½in or 250cm x 265cm.

There are clear set out instructions with illustrations and photos to help you with your machine piecing of this quilt. Suitable for beginner quilters or quilters of any level. This design is made using Equilateral Triangles. And there is even a Bonus Pillow pattern included for you to complete the set.

The Heatwave Quilt Pattern includes:

  • Illustrations and photos
  • List of Fabric requirements
  • Cutting Instructions
  • Sewing Instructions
  • Pressing Tips
  • Layout and Assembly instructions
  • Binding instructions
  • EQ Template pages
  • BONUS Pillow Pattern
Whether you want to give Equilateral Triangles a go for the first time (don't worry, they're not as tricky as they seem!), or you've tried one of my other designs (End Game, Labyrinth or Love Triangle) you now have a new EQ design to add to your project list!

To keep things really easy, you can buy the matching EQ templates in my store. They've had a bit of a glow-up with new packaging and are looking pretty schmick, as you can see! And don't forget the BONUS pillow pattern that's included!

Check out all my tips for sewing with equilateral triangles in my blog post here.

“This design is modern, fun to piece, and comes together quickly with Jemima’s clear instructions and step-by- step diagrams. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to cut and piece the triangles that make up this pattern. It’s a thing of beauty, sewing friends!” Lauren @sewlosew

"This was my first time working with equilateral triangles in a quilt. The strong visuals and clear instructions in the pattern helped me to feel confident at each step of the process and made piecing triangles a breeze. I couldn't believe how quickly the quilt top came together once I got going!"    Danielle @the.reds.quiltco

The Heatwave Quilt pattern is out now.

Available as a PDF Pattern or Paper Pattern in my Store.

Wholesale customers can purchase through Creative Abundance or Checker Distributors.

Please tag me @tiedwitharibbon with your #heatwavequilt so that I can see the beautiful versions you make.

Love Triangle Quilt Pattern release!

I know you are not supposed to have favourites but I can't help it.  This is the most favourite Quilt Pattern I have designed to date! I am so excited to introduce the Love Triangle Quilt. Originally published in Love Patchwork and Quilting (Issue 83) the Love Triangle Quilt is now available as a stand alone Pattern.

The inspiration for this Quilt came after seeing some Graffiti in a Laneway in Melbourne City.  I saw a letter 'S' on the wall and it instantly took my interest for how I could make lettering work in a Quilt in a new and inspired way.  Once I looked at the letter for a while I realised that it could work so well made up of Equilateral Triangles.  Several months later back in my Studio I was sitting down with some grid paper and pencils determined to work this idea up into a Quilt.  I settled on the word LOVE after playing with lots of words because it is universal and it just had me so inspired.  Working up several different styles and with different layouts once I was happy I set about creating the design in fabric.

Love Triangle Quilt is modern, bold and a graphic style quilt made up of Equilateral Triangles.  The pattern includes 3 sizes - Mini (30.5in x 30.5in - 77.5cm x 77.5cm), Lap (66.5in x 66.5in - 169cm x 169cm) and Queen (96.5in x 96.5in - 245cm x 245cm). The pattern also contains a Colouring Page, Cutting Tags to keep track of your cut colours and a Paper Template to measure any existing Template you may have or to use on its own.
Whether you choose to make this design out of Solids or Prints this works so well with either.

This Love Triangle (original) Quilt was made out of Tula Pink Solids - I just love the saturation and depth of colour that these Free Spirit Solids have.  This design works up best using dark and lighter shades to create the 3D effect.

A big thank you to Carol at The Quilting Cottage for her stellar Custom Quilting of this Quilt.  IT really has made this design pop and was just what I wanted for this Quilt.

And because I am always a sucker to design and make Mini Quilts, I could not help but work up the Tula Pink Solids to show just how cute the design looks as a Mini Quilt.

And to make the process of cutting out far more accurate as well as much quicker, I have Acrylic Templates available for all the Quilt sizes included in the pattern here.

For Wholesale Customers you can purchase the Pattern and Templates through my Distributors at

This Quilt really is so fun to make and I want to encourage you to give sewing Equilateral Triangles a go if you haven't before.  They are not as intimidating as they may seem and go together well once you have had a little practice.

And because this Quilt is so fun to make, there will be a Love Triangle Quilt Along starting on September 1st.  There will be lots of prizes and tips and tricks to share along the way.  If you are interested you can sign up for the

For many years I have been dreaming that one of my patterns would be turned into a T-shirt design.  Well that day has come because the amazing team at Patchwork Threads have turned the Love Triangle Quilt into a Tee and I could not be more thrilled. This was really a "pinch me" moment as I am such a big fan of Patchwork Threads and their Tee's.  I already own six of their other quilting and sewing inspired ones and I can not wait for my Tee's to arrive to wear. The Vintage Navy colour is stunning against the bright colours of the letters and the Tri Blend fabric is so soft and comfy to wear.

And if you are looking for some amazing inspiration then just check out the #lovetrianglequilt Hashtag.  There you will find some absolutely spectacular Love Triangle Quilt versions made by my pattern testers. They really are such a valuable part of my pattern writing process and they show just how different one pattern can look in different prints and colours. Go check them out.

End Game Quilt - New Pattern Release

Introducing my latest pattern release - End Game!

This quilt is all about Bright, Bold and making a statement.  I am so excited to share this pattern with you that I made last year and was featured in Love Patchwork and Quilting (even making the cover).  You can now get your hands on End Game directly from my Store (PDF and Templates) and Wholesale through Creative Abundance (Paper Patterns and Templates).

When I was younger I used to play computer games with my brothers and sisters on an old Atari Game console - that's right - even before Apple Computers!  One game we used to play had shapes drop down and you would make pretty patterns - almost like Tetris but it was more pattern making than stacking them to fit.  After a family gathering one weekend last year, I had been reminded of this and this design was born from those childhood memories.

As soon as I heard that Tula Pink was putting out a range of Solids, Tent Stripes and Pom Pom fabrics,  I knew these were the perfect fabrics for this design.  The Tula Pink Solids and fabrics I used are listed in the Pattern not only for placement reference but incase you would like to source your own.

The End Game Pattern not only features the pattern in this Full Size Quilt (62.5in x 72.5in) but also a Mini Quilt (20.5in x 22.5in).  There are Coloured Illustrations and Photos in the pattern along with a Colouring Page to help you plan out your own End Game Quilt.  Also included are Fabric Cutting Tags to keep track of your pieces once cut.

Check out the amazing Custom Quilting on this quilt thanks to Carol Brady at The Quilting Cottage. I'm seriously in love with how the quilting makes these individual Triangles look like one so cohesively.

And because I always believe that Quilting can sometimes be about the little details that add that finishing touch - in the Tent Stripe and Pom Pom fabric Triangles, I hand quilted these with Aurifil Thread 12wt to give it a real handmade touch.

Doesn't everything look cute in Mini size!  I love making Mini Quilts and one project I wanted to include when I released the pattern was a Mini Quilt version.  I made this version with Tula Pink's Zuma Collection and love how this showcases that this quilt design works just as wonderfully in prints as well as solid coloured fabrics.

Sometimes the back of a quilt never gets enough attention but using this Tula Pink Free Fall Backing has meant the quilting looks awesome on the back just like the front.

To go along with the Pattern I have created this Acrylic Template Set to make both the Full size and the Mini Quilt versions.  You don't have to have this exact Template as I talk you through lots of options in the Pattern.  But I have found these Templates so helpful to make cutting a breeze with your Rotary Cutter and of course ensuring accuracy with each piece I cut.

I am so excited about this End Game Quilt - you can check out all the amazing versions made by my Pattern Testers already at #endgamequilt over on Instagram.

Wholesale orders for End Game are available through my Distributor -
They have both the Pattern and Template sets that can be shipped to stores here in Aus and Internationally.

There are also a large number of Local Quilt Stores stocking this pattern and templates so check out or ask your LQS for End Game.

And in more exciting news!
The #endgamequiltsewalong is coming

You can sign up here for the End Game Quilt Sew Along Newsletter
which will have all the details going out very soon.
