Dare/Essentials II - Art Gallery- The Mini's Quilt Blog Tour

Today is my turn on Pat Bravo's - The Minis Quilt Blog Tour.  These fabrics from Pats ranges - Dare and Essentials II pair perfectly together and when I opened the package to find all these Pink and Blue fabrics - I was smitten.

Creating a Mini Quilt using all these fabrics was easy using my Vintage Cotton Reel Mini Quilt.  This pattern was perfect to use lots of fabrics that would create such a lovely overall effect.

I really so enjoy sewing with Art Gallery fabrics - the feel and sheen to the fabrics is so luxurious to sew with.  These ranges compliment each other so well and mix and match beautifully. 

I love Straight Line quilting and this design was perfect to just quilt, quilt and quilt some more straight lines.  This magical Aurifil #5007 was just such a lovely ice blue that worked really well against the colours of the fabrics but was not to over powering on top of the white fabric.

While this may be considered "Scrappy Binding" - I don't think there is anything scrappy about it. Using all the pieces I had left I sewed 6.5in x 2.5in pieces together to make a Binding strip long enough for my Mini Quilt.  Just the perfect finish.  

This Vintage Cotton Reel Mini Quilt has come up so well in these fabrics and will even be on show at the upcoming Salt Lake City Quilt Market.  

Normally I would sew down the Cotton Reel tail itself, but because of the closeness of my Straight Line Quilting this want necessary as it was going to be well sewn down.

Spell-It-With-Moda Q-A-L Birthday Celebrations

It is my turn today to celebrate Moda's - ABC Birthday Quilt-Along.  What a great fun way to completely personalise and make a quilt just for the person you are making it for.  Whether you are making your favourite phrases, words, names or the alphabet itself this is a great pattern with lots of possibilities to create.  

Getting started is easy with just a Jelly Roll (and seriously who doesn't have one of these they are hoarding), some background fabric and the "Spell it with Moda" pattern booklet (available from your local quilt store or online).

As you may know I love reds and blues and I am a Bonnie and Camille fan and have adored the work of Camille's for many years.  So  their latest range - "Vintage Picnic" was the perfect choice for me to create some letters and decide on what I wanted my quilt to say and get sewing.  

We are expecting some new arrivals this year and already knowing what gender they are - as a quilt maker certainly helps to decide what to make.  So with a precious baby girl soon to arrive I decided I wanted to celebrate this wonderful new little lady.

G is for Girl

The pattern is easy to read and they letters came together really quickly.  Using the Jelly roll cuts down on lots of cutting and using a fabric strip per letter made for simple cutting.

My plan - the lettering "Sweet Baby Girl" which I want to feature in the centre of the quilt.  I am going to put background fabric around the letters to make them sit centrally and then filler blocks around as a border.  

You can check out the hash tag - #spellitwithmoda for heaps of ideas and inspiration from makers and by the way these letters are totally addictive.  I have found myself even thinking I may use them as an ABC quilt instead with all the letters.

Crochet Trim Blanket - Penny Rose Blog Tutorial

How adorable is Elea Lutz's latest range - Strawberry Biscuit.  With the sweetest of prints and characters this range will be hard to resist. Cute puppies and delicate florals all in the most vibrant of colours make for another stand out collection.  Strawberry Biscuit is made for Penny Rose Fabrics (distributed through Millhouse Collections in Australia) and is available now.

This Quilt is perfect for pre-cuts such as Charm Squares or you can cut your own squares that feature sweet fussy cuts and prints.

I made a similar Crochet Trim Baby Blanket a while back and thought this would be the perfect project to make and share for the Penny Rose Blog Tutorial.  Crochet looks simply stunning against the binding of a quilt - this pattern only has several stitches for the actual crochet so is suitable for a beginner.

Backyard Roses Blog Tour

Today is my turn on the Backyard Roses Blog Tour.  This stunning range is the second collection from Nadra Ridgeway for Riley Blake Designs.  If you loved her first range - Bloom and Bliss, then this will just compliment it so well and be a must on for your stash.  Nadra's blog is filled with inspiration and lots of tutorials so check her out.

Back yard Roses is available now and (in Australia) is distributed through Millhouse Collections.

The range with its stunning florals and complimentary blenders are strong and passionate.  The colours are vibrant and work so well together.  There are also lots of fussy cutting opportunities for lovers of English Paper Piecing.

I would definitely say the reds and yellows are my favourites in this collection -  but truly they are all beautiful.  Just love the Yellow tiny roses!

I could not wait to cut into these and decided these would be perfect to make one of my Confetti Cushions (available as a PDF pattern in my store).  With a Neutral Double Gauze these Back yard Roses prints just sing and stand out so well.  But these would work well with any solid shade or any other background fabric you choose.  

I found it hard stopping at one project so I also made one of my Mini Quilts - "When life gives you scraps!".  Just for fun this Mini Quilt will hang in my sewing studio but makes me so happy with these colours and prints.

Blog Tour - A Spoonful of Sugar

I can remember one of my first ever blogs that I started reading was - A Spoonful of Sugar.  Lisa Cox and her daughter are an amazing team and over the years I have loved reading all about their crafty pursuits and there have been so many of their tutorials and recipes that I have made.  Over many years we have developed a friendship and I am so thrilled to be part of her Blog Tour for her first book - A Spoonful of Sugar : Sew 20 Simple Projects to Sweeten your Surroundings Zakka Style.

Lisa loves sharing her knowledge of Sewing with everyone and the projects that she has designed in her book are great for everyone.  So many of the projects can be made as gifts or makes for yourself.  I just love the Treasure Bags and Handy Eco Shopper.  I am really into practical sewing these days and love presents that I can make to give to friends and family.

We have some family members and friends expecting new babies in the near future so I just couldn't wait to make the Boutique Baby Bibs.  With sweet English Paper Piecing Style Hexagons - these were so sweet to stitch up. 

I recently got some of the new Garden of Dreams - Liberty collection from Ava and Neve and these were perfect for Fussy cutting the cute little characters out of and such vibrant colours. This is such a sweet children's collection.

Not only is there the hand sewing detail with the Hexagons but also with some hand quilting along the bib which just finishes them off perfectly.  The pattern was quick to sew and these will be just perfect for when new babies arrive.

The Bibs are also reversible.

I loved sewing these and I can not wait to get sewing with some of the other projects in Lisa's book.  This also will make a great gift for someone (Mothers Day is around the corner).

Strawberry Biscuit Blog Hop

Today is my turn on the Strawberry Biscuit Fabric Blog Hop and one of my favourite fabric designers - Elea Lutz has done it again with her amazing new range - Strawberry Biscuit.  Strawberry Biscuit for Penny Rose Fabrics is available now and will certainly leave you wanting to add plenty of it to your stash.  The sweet prints with Strawberries, Flowers, Ribbons and bows and the cutest ever characters makes for a wonderful collection with vibrant deep colours.

Elea has a real attention to detail with her character prints containing lots of detail to tell the story of these animal friends.  If you love Puppies then there are lots of cute little dogs you will adore.  I think my favourite prints would have to be "Scallop" and "Daisy" - these are so versatile and I just love the colours of these prints in this range.
