Bequest Makers Tour - Briar Hill Designs

Have you seen the very talented and amazing Fabric Collections by Briar Hill Designs. Caverly and Julia are the duo behind this design team.  Caverly is the artist and Julia is the quilt designer which makes for a perfect pairing.  Bequest is their second range for RJR Fabrics which is shipping now.  I am excited to be sharing with you today something I have made for the Makers Tour.

For all those Floral Lovers then you will just adore this range in all the Blue and Whites making such a complimentary colour palette to these fabrics.  With large florals, small scale leaves along with geometric prints, this range has it all.  The Watercolour styled designs make this range fresh all the while giving it that vintage country feel.

In the words of Julia and Caverly...

"A Bequest is something given or transmitted from the past. An heirloom. A legacy. An antique. We used these precious items as our inspiration behind these 20 blue and white prints. Each of the print names go along with our theme: ‘Hope Chest’, ‘Looking Glass’, ‘Loom’, ‘Music Box’, etc. We had such a blast naming them."

Deciding what to make will certainly be the hardest part.  After lots of thought I decided to make one of my Confetti Cushions to showcase these stunning florals.

Getting to work on cutting out these fabrics and then piecing was great fun, taking in the bespoke nature of these prints.  With such a beautifully co-ordinated colour palette all the hard work is done and all the the colours and prints just work so well together.

Bequest is hitting stores now, so you can get making in plenty of time for Christmas.  You can follow along with all the Makers involved in the tour here:

Playground Showcase

It's pretty safe to say that one of my Quilting idols is Amy Sinabaldi - I love her style, her colour choices, her patterns and her fabric ranges are to die for.  So getting to be able to work on her Playground Showcase was nothing short of amazing.  Playground is Amy's latest range for Art Gallery Fabrics and is available now.

As soon as this amazing bundle arrived from Amy I got straight to sewing.  I love the childhood memories behind this range and how each of the prints remind me of games I played or things we used to do with my family when I was young.  The colours work so great together and I knew I wanted to do a project that involved using the complete range together.

First up,  I made this Pin Pal Pincushion.

From the range I would have to say that Chopsticks in Iris would be my favourite print - I can see using a lot of this one in lots of upcoming projects - I love stripes - but these Chevron, staggered stripes are the ultimate.

This Pin Pal is our latest Sew Along pattern (Sew Along is a joint venture between myself and Claire Turpin Design) and I have not been able to stop making these addictive Sewing Room mates.  I really adore the colours in the prints and how well they work together.

When Amy and I chatted about possible projects this Confetti Cushion was definitely going to work well to show how the range of prints and colours all can work beautifully in one project together.  Using the collection and a Cotton/Linen Weave Blend I set about making a Confetti Cushion.

And when it came to machine quilting it - I could not go past adding some Pink Sparkle with my favourite Aurifil Brillo Thread - #700.  I really love this Aurifil metallic thread - it sews like a dream through your machine and gives that added touch of glitz.

I can't wait to get making on some more projects using Playground - and can't wait to see what Amy will have in store for her next range.

There are a lot of amazing makers involved in the Playground Showcase - you can check them all out here -

Backyard Roses Blog Tour

Today is my turn on the Backyard Roses Blog Tour.  This stunning range is the second collection from Nadra Ridgeway for Riley Blake Designs.  If you loved her first range - Bloom and Bliss, then this will just compliment it so well and be a must on for your stash.  Nadra's blog is filled with inspiration and lots of tutorials so check her out.

Back yard Roses is available now and (in Australia) is distributed through Millhouse Collections.

The range with its stunning florals and complimentary blenders are strong and passionate.  The colours are vibrant and work so well together.  There are also lots of fussy cutting opportunities for lovers of English Paper Piecing.

I would definitely say the reds and yellows are my favourites in this collection -  but truly they are all beautiful.  Just love the Yellow tiny roses!

I could not wait to cut into these and decided these would be perfect to make one of my Confetti Cushions (available as a PDF pattern in my store).  With a Neutral Double Gauze these Back yard Roses prints just sing and stand out so well.  But these would work well with any solid shade or any other background fabric you choose.

I found it hard stopping at one project so I also made one of my Mini Quilts - "When life gives you scraps!".  Just for fun this Mini Quilt will hang in my sewing studio but makes me so happy with these colours and prints.

You can check out what everyone involved has made here

New Pattern Releases

While it may be a little early to start thinking of Christmas it is not too early to start to think about your Christmas Crafting.  As soon as "Little Joys" by Elea Lutz (for Penny Rose Fabrics) arrived I knew exactly what I wanted to make.

With beautiful vintage Christmas designs and traditional colours in these fabrics I set about making my "Christmas Cheer Advent Calendar".  Little Joys is now available in Australia at these stores

You can fill these pockets with which ever treats, sweets or little gifts you choose and all the family will enjoy this countdown to Santa's arrival.

PDF Downloable Pattern for my Christmas Cheer Advent Calendar is now available at my Website and Etsy Store

Liberty fabrics melt my heart - I love the prints, colours, designs and feel of the beautiful Tana Lawn.  This bright bundle arrived from Ava and Neve and I quickly set about making this large cushion teamed with Essex Yarn Dyed Linen (Navy)

This new pattern - Confetti Cushion shows the beautiful bright prints and how striking they look set against a beautifully textured Linen.

PDF Downloadable Pattern for my Confetti Cushion is now available at my Website and Etsy Store.
