Weekend Quilting - Showcase Wrap Up! (lots of stunning Pics in this Post!)

I am completely and absolutely blown away by how amazing all the projects that have been made by my Blogging friends are.  I am so inspired by each of them and then to see how they have taken the patterns from my book - Weekend Quilting and made it their own is breath taking.  I am also, so very humbled at the words they have all written within their posts, the time they have all taken out of their busy schedules and family lives and just how willing everyone was to be a part of celebrating my first book.

Over the past month 23 Bloggers have showcased the projects they made from the book.  Take a look below at these adorable and inspiring projects made by this very talented group of people I am blessed to call friends:

I also during the Showcase was busy making a new version of my "Hearts on Fire Quilt".  My older daughter, while I was making the book quickly claimed the Denim and Cotton and Steel version that I was making (I took that as a compliment that a 14year was "baggsing" a quilt I was making).  So for my younger daughter I decided I would make a Liberty version and make it quite different in colour and texture from the original.

These Liberty fabrics from The Strawberry Thief were just so pretty and the Nude Solid background colour just perfect.  It is no secret how much I adore Liberty fabrics - the prints make me so inspired and I love the colour ways and dainty prints.

I also used Quilt-Lite for this quilt (made by Vilene) which is a really soft and draped almost flannel like batting.  It is much thinner than regular Cotton Batting and is the perfect summer weight Quilt. I used the shape of the heart as the outline for the Machine Quilting.  I quilted 1.5in apart lines around the whole outside of the heart. Said younger daughter has even used this Quilt so much already it has already been washed.

And that wraps up the Weekend Quilting Showcase!

Blooms Garden Quilt - A Free Pattern

When I wrote the pattern for my Blooms Mini Quilt from my book - Weekend Quilting I knew that I would need to somehow turn this into a larger quilt.  I have been just so in love with this design that I wanted to do something on a bigger scale.

Hence I have come up with the Blooms Garden Lap Quilt and even better - the pattern is free.  This Lap Quilt measures 60in x 60in (153cm x 153cm) and is the perfect way to extend the Mini Blooms pattern into a Quilt for on the couch or for a bed or even a beautiful picnic quilt.

To make this Quilt you will need a copy of

and the pattern which you can download from the link below

There are also Acrylic Templates available as well for this project which make tracing out your shapes onto your Fusible Web a breeze.

This pattern is designed as an extension of the pattern from the book so further tips and techniques can be found in the pages as well as all the detailed instructions to Baste and Bind your Quilt of Weekend Quilting.

For this Quilt I used a Fat Quarter Bundle of Heather Ross' Sleeping Porch  for Windham Fabrics.  It has the sweetest butterflies and snails and was perfect for this Floral inspired quilt design.  The fabrics too - being Lawn are just so soft and work really well against the White Linen I used for the background fabric.

I love using a Triple Stitch on my machine for Raw Edge Appliqué.  I use really shiny threads to give just a bit of sparkle to the design.

I'd love to see any pictures/posts you make of this Quilt so make sure to tag me @tiedwitharibbon in any pics that you post or use the hashtags #tiedwitharibbonpatterns, #weekendquiltingthebook #bloomsgardenquilt.

My first book - Weekend Quilting is finally here after lots and lots of work behind the scenes to make and write the 16 Projects for this book, finally I get to share this with you all.  This really is a dream come true and I am so excited about its release.  I know how busy our lives are, jammed packed with all of the work and family things that need to be done.  I very much wanted to create a book that allowed time to sew and quilt so you could start and finish a project in a short time frame.

Weekend Quilting has 16 Projects including Lap Quilts, Mini Quilts, Pillow, Table Runners and even a Pennant all designed to be made within a weekend.  There are 8 Techniques involved and help you to grow your skills in quilting and sewing - from 9 Patch's to English paper Piecing to Foundation Paper Piecing - there really is something for everyone.  Beautifully illustrated with hand drawn Watercolour drawings, the book gives you all the instructions, Templates and helpful Tips and Techniques you will need. I will also be sewing along making one of the projects.  I wanted to make some of the projects in completely different colour ways to show how different they can be.  The Strawberry Thief were very generous in supplying the Liberty fabrics that I used in the book's projects.  This beautiful bundle of Liberty Classics and Blush Solid are going to be used to make one of my favourite quilts from the book.

The Blooms Mini Quilt from the Book is made using the technique of Appliqué.  I have designed full size Acrylic Templates to go with this project so that you can make the Blooms Mini Quilt with ease (The book includes the pattern these are an optional addition).  The Templates make for easy Tracing of the Blooms and Leaves for the Project.  They are also versatile so you can use them anyway you choose.  These Acrylic Template Sets are also available to purchase in my Store here.

Latest Pattern Releases

After an extremely busy January with both my girls here on Summer School holidays now that routines have started to return to normal I have had some time in my sewing room to design and make and time at my computer to write.

Ever since my girls were little they had similar Tooth Fairy Cushions that I designed and made out of Felt.  Well they are now both teenagers and I have finally gotten around to converting this design into a fabric pattern.

Introducing my Tooth Fairy Tooth Cushions.

The pattern for these contain both the Tooth Fairy and Shooting Star Appliqué Patterns.  They have a sweet little pocket for your child to put their tooth into and then a place where the Tooth Fairy can leave their coin/note or trinket.

You can choose your favourite method of Appliqué to make these - whether by hand or machine using any stitches like Raw Edge Appliqué or Blanket Stitch - it is up to you.

This pattern will be a handmade treasure for your little one marking a big milestone in their lives.  Also great to make and gift.

Tooth Fairy Tooth Cushion pattern is available in my store here
or wholesale through Creative Abundance.

And here is my second Pattern release for the new year. This is my Pinwheel Posies Table Runner and Table Mats.

How pretty will your Table setting look with this Table Runner and Mats to decorate.  Whether your having High Tea, Morning Tea, a Spring inspired event or just want your table to have a sweet touch of floral.

The pattern comes with the Instructions not only to make the Table Runner but also 2 Mats.

Pinwheel Posies Table Runner and Mats pattern is available in my store here
or wholesale through Creative Abundance.
