Wildflower Meadow - you have done it again Melly and Me!

I have been a lucky girl being able to get to work with this beautiful new range Wildflower Meadow by Melly and Me thanks to Millhouse Collections for Riley Blake Fabrics.  This latest range from Melly is absolutely the cutest and so whimsical with its mix of characters and flowers.

As a child I used to spend lots of time making Daisy Chains with my friends in and around the Grasslands of my house.  These fabrics inspired me to make a quilt reminiscent of those times creating the chain of daisy flowers around the main fabric trail of the quilt.

The animals are just so sweet and the range includes beautifully coloured fabrics to co-ordinate with the main prints.  Wildflower Meadow is available now and I am sure it will be a much loved fabric range.

Daisy Chain is now available as a PDF downloadable pattern in my Etsy store.

I just knew this range was perfect to make this Butterfly Trail Appliqué Cushion.

With bright colours and cute characters this was just perfect for this design.  I used Aurifil 12wt Cotton to Appliqué my Butterfly in matching up the colours of the fabrics with the threads.  The beauty of Appliqué is that you can choose which way you like to sew it best - whether by machine or hand the results are always great.

Butterfly Trail is now available as a PDF downloadable pattern in my Etsy store.

Here is a list of stores which have the range here in Australia

Behind the scenes

At the moment I feel like the rough water beneath the boat.  All looks calm on the top but here - behind the scenes I have been madly sewing and stitching working on lots of upcoming projects.  There are a lot of projects that I work on for the Magazines and other Publications that I can only show you sneak peaks and I have to keep things under wraps -  I love sharing and only showing bits and pieces kills me!

This big pile of projects left the other day - can't wait to share with you the actual fronts and all of these projects later down the track.

Anyway something I can show you is a project that I have just started (in-between far too many other unfinished projects).  Green Tea and Sweet Beans by Jen Kingwell has been around for a little while and I have seen several interpretations of this pattern - all stunning.  Some people have hand sewn the whole project using the templates but I have decided to mix it up and machine sew some blocks and hand sew others using techniques that I like and are far more familiar with.

I started with a Starter Kit from Westwood Acres Fabrics for this quilt and then went through my stash pulling fabrics that I thought show off the types and colours of fabrics that are my favourites.  These are my blocks so far and I am pretty happy with how it is all coming together at the moment.

 Propellar Blocks

Berry Basket

Drunkards Path

Double Pinwheels
(which despite unpicking twice are still sewn together moving in the wrong direction)

Churn Dash

Lozengers

Anyway there are a few custom order quilts which I am about to start that I can share with you as I go - so looking forward to not being so secret squirrel about all that I am working on.

Rainbow Fizz Quilt Set all complete.

The custom order Rainbow Fizz Quilt/Playmat is all finished and has been delivered to its new home.

Lots of beautiful Kona Solids set against the white give the quilt a fresh and colourful look.

Playing with my new Macro Lens on my camera means I can now get some real close up shots which even show the weft and warp threads within the fabric.

The binding choice was easy - I knew it was going to need a stripe and when the backing fabric with the black swirls was chosen by the client it was hard to go past the black and white stripe for the binding.

A matching cushion was also ordered to go in the Nursery for this new impending arrival.

Strawberry Social all finished

Well my Strawberry Social Quilt is now all finished.  I was so thrilled with how it all came together and the combination of the bright pinks and reds that my little girl chose.

I sent it away to be long arm machine quilted by Carol of the The Quilting Cottage and asked if she had a Strawberry design that could be quilted all over.

I made an extra Strawberry block and added into my backing - I always love to put an extra little detail or something in my backing - just for some interest.

This week the latest Christmas Issue of Tickle the Imagination Magazine was released.  I was very excited as in there was a tutorial I put together to make this Large Cushion.  I love seeing projects that I make put in print and love sharing with others ideas to get creative.

I made some time over the weekend for some sewing "just because".  I often have orders and deadlines for projects so it is nice once in a while and getting in my sewing to sew to make something for no other reason that I want to.  I let both my girls into my Liberty stash and they chose some beautiful fabrics for me to make them some bunting each for their rooms.

An abundance of babies

There recently has been an surge in newborn babies from our friends and family.  Not only is it so exciting to welcome precious new little ones into our lives with whom we are lucky enough to watch grow but of course for me that also gives me an excuse to make quilts.

The only hard part that is although I truly treasure keeping the gender of the baby a secret - as we did with our own two - I find it harder to create unisex quilts than ones for a boy or girl when the gender is known.

So these are the two quilts I created for these new arrivals -

This one is called Wash Day and is from Trish Harper Designs.  I bought this pattern a few years back after seeing it in Amitie Textiles in Melbourne and fell in love with it.  This quilt ended up going to a beautiful baby girl!

Here is the next quilt that I made for my newest nephew!

This Coin Quilt came from the Tutorial I found here.  I have made quite a few Coin Quilts in the past - they are a great way to get stuck into your scrap pile and contain it a little and I also have made these for a brother and sister before so that they had they same pattern but just in different colourways.

And of course new babies meant that I had to indulge in some new wool for my newest passion - Crochet.  Although I am still putting together all the squares from my Squares rug, I could not help but get some of the Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece from Tangled Yarns.  I love these colours!
