Amity's Garden Quilt and Cushion Duo - New pattern release

Last year - my youngest sister announced she was Pregnant.  Well anytime people announce they are having a baby it is special and it immediately means I get "the excuse" create a new handmade gift.  Once she knew she was having a little girl - it meant I could get designing something very sweet and girly for her arrival.

I knew exactly what design I wanted to create and I had my own two girls help to pick out these beautiful Liberty Fabrics in Pinks, Purples and Apple Greens.  These flowers and butterflies are set among this amazing Japanese Linen that I had been hoarding for just such a special project.  Together these fabrics are so soft.

"Amity's Garden" was then named once my sweet little niece arrived - and she is just so delightful.  This set features a Cot size Quilt and matching Cushion.

Amity's Garden was featured in February's, 2016 issue of Homespun Magazine.

I decided to hand quilt the quilt and cushion - I used matching Auriful 12wt threads to outline the flowers and butterflies and then used a stencil to outline hearts into the background of the Quilt.  These made for a special feature of the quilt (although difficult to see from the photographs).

Liberty and Crochet Blanket for a sweet Baby girl!

Liberty of London fabrics are certainly one of my favourites - so combine making a Liberty Quilt and Crochet and it is a quilt made in heaven. The pattern for the Crochet Trim blanket is available here.

I firstly made a simple squares quilt using Liberty fabric.  I cut large squares out of some of my favourites and then sew them together to make a quilt top. Because I wanted this quilt to be a light and soft quilt I chose "Quilt Lite" for the Batting as this is almost like a layer of flannel in the centre - rather than a regular Cotton Batting.

On the back I had bought this amazing piece of Liberty Gallymoggers which has all the custest drawings of all the Alice in Wonderland characters - just perfect to keep in one piece and then can be completely reversed for this Crochet Trim Blanket.

I used Aurifil 12wt #2021 to hand quilt the quilt outlining the squares and then finished off the binding just as normal.  Once the quilt was finished then the crochet Border was sewn.

Using Rowan - Siena 4ply (Mercerised Cotton) in an off white colour I started the trim using a Blanket stitch to have an anchor row for the crochet trim using a "Knitter's Needle".  Using a 2.75mm Clover hook I then crocheted a scallop around the foundation Blanket stitch.

I feel that there will be lots more of this type of quilt to be made in the future.  I am so happy with how it looks and the drape is just so soft.  Perfect for a new baby and such a portable quilt.

When Life Gives You Scraps Mini Quilt - New Pattern

Sometimes there is sewing for deadlines and sometimes there is sewing for fun.  And this Mini Quilt is exactly the latter.  "When life gives you scraps" is a reminder of how much sewing is always there when things are tough.  

This version was made with my stash of Thimble Blossoms fabrics.  You can make this quilt to gift or to hang in a sewing space just like I have done.

This quilt can be made using your favourite Appliqué Method.  So whether you love to Hand sew or Machine sew your Appliqué you can pick and choose.

This version has been made with Liberty fabrics from Ava and Neve.  These fabrics are so bright and bold and the prints for this new season are stunning.
