Sparkling Confetti Quilt

This is my Sparkling Confetti Quilt.  Made with lots of pink, purple and aqua fabrics from my stash.  Some of the pieces are actually the last few pieces I had of some of my favourite fabrics.  

I have used Sketch by Timeless Treasures as the grey fabric to off set all the coloured pieces.  The border fabric is by Michael Miller and has the sweetest butterflies and flowers on it.  This fabric inspired the colour range of fabrics used in this quilt.

The quilt is 112cm x 112cm (44in x 44in) in size making it a great quilt for a young child or toddler to snuggle or use to travel with.  

The quilt was pieced with Aurifil cotton in white - #2024 - 50wt and was machine quilted  using Aurifil cotton in a favourite of mine -  variegated grey #4060.  I have quilted tramlines over the quilt to keep the quilting out of the way of the beautiful confetti effect of the blocks.

This backing fabric has this beautiful floral design and I used a hot pink fabric with bubbles for the binding.

Hop, Skip Jump! Quilt Pattern release

I have said that there is so much going on behind the scenes at the moment and now I can share with you one of those projects.  Here is my Hop, Skip, Jump! Quilt.  It has been quite a work in progress but it feels so wonderful to now share it all with you.  

I wanted to make a kids quilt that used a feature fabric or panel to create a fun and bright quilt that could be made by all level of sewers.  I worked towards making a design that would prove versatile over a range of colours and prints and would make a sweet snuggle quilt or cot size quilt for a child to cherish and love.

A big thanks to Peggy Sass Photography for her wonderful pictures of my Little Red Riding Hood version of this quilt.

This fabric came from Hawthorne Threads and is Little Red Riding Hood by Tasha Noel for Riley Blake fabrics.

And just to show how other prints can be used to make this fun quilt here is one I made using this great Plane novelty fabric.

My quilts were all pieced with my go to thread - Aurifil #2024 - 50wt.  I then machine quilted the Little Red Riding Hood quilt using a free motion Loopy pattern in the same Aurifil thread.  For the Planes quilt I used the variegated Aurifil #4060 - 50wt.  This grey to white variegated thread goes so well over different colours.  If you haven't used Aurifil - it is a game changer.  Best thread I have used by far.

This quilt certainly has been a challenge.  The original pattern is mainly hand pieced and needle turn but I decided to stick with my strengths and use methods that I felt more comfortable with and knew I was better at.  There were definitely blocks outside my comfort zone and making all the templates from paper meant having to be very accurate but I am loving being pushed to work for this quilt.  

I used a "cheats method" of Needle turn for the Igloos and Orange Peels but decided to hand blanket stitch the flowers instead as I felt my Needle turn wasn't the best.  But in saying that the teacher in me would say that there is only one way to get better at techniques.  

So far I am loving how this quilt is coming together.  The individual blocks are filling up my design board and I think it was a very smart idea to go with the Starter Kit from Westwood Acres.  It was great to have a place to start and keep some continuity throughout the blocks of the quilt.
